Bed & Breakfast located close to Hadrian's Wall. Boasts listed building, micro brewery & pub. Local access to Golf Course and Sports Centre. Disabled friendly.
The Keelman's Lodge and Public House are situated within the grounds of the Big Lamp Brewery (the North East's oldest micro brewery) in the village of Newburn. The property stands in it's own grounds on the edge of the Tyne Riverside Country Park, just five miles from Newcastle and three miles from the Metro Centre. The building was once a water pumping station, built on a part of the site of the battle of Newburn. Towards the end of the 20th Century it was reclaimed from ruin and lovingly converted into the character listed building which occupies the site today.
The Keelman is a traditional style pub boasting an open design which is renowned locally for its excellent food and fine ales which are brewed in the adjoining brewery. The menu changes on a regular basis with everything from inexpensive sandwiches to well prepared bar lunches and dinners represented. The adventure playground is a great attraction for all younger visitors, from tots to teens.
Bed and breakfast accommodation is housed in two buildings, the first of which consisting of six rooms with en-suite facilities. Each room has a double and a single bed with a cot available on request, making ideal family style accommodation. The second building is a two storey lodge offering eight bedrooms, all with a king size bed and en-suite facilities. All rooms are complete with colour TV and tea and coffee making facilities as standard. A full English breakfast is taken in the adjacent Keelman daily.
There is a leisure centre close by which caters for a range of activities from badminton and football and, after a short induction, the use of the gym. Mountain bikes can also be hired and these provide the ideal way to explore the surrounding countryside.
